Star Hopper Studio is a trans-led boutique creative studio and production company from India, founded by filmmakers Asawari Jagushte and Varsha Panikar.

We write, develop and produce across film, brand and culture. Long and short-format fiction and documentary. Ads, campaigns, branded films, fashion films and music videos. Immersive, interactive and new media projects.

We partner with culture-forward brands and agencies, studios, production companies, cultural institutions and artists in India and internationally.

We think of ourselves as creative and cultural partners. We come in wherever a project needs us: shaping an early idea, developing the creative, directing, producing, seeing it through post, or bringing it to an audience. 

 

That can also mean finding the right language for an idea, navigating an unfamiliar cultural context, bringing a perspective the project doesn't yet have, or figuring out how to carry an ambitious production across cities, countries and disciplines.
 

Our producing methodology is part of the creative practice. Each project asks for its own way of working, shaped by the story, the people and the context around it. This can change who participates in the authorship, how a team is built, how a production moves through a place, and how the work eventually meets its audience. Shared authorship, fair labour, sustainable practices and inclusive teams are embedded in that process.

Our practice also extends into publishing and curation through Riot Ink Press, our self-publishing imprint, and Underground Film Observatory, our space for exploring, curating and exhibiting moving-image work.

 

Across all of it, we are interested in work with a distinct point of view: ideas that can become films, films that can become worlds, and forms we haven't encountered yet.
